IF SHE DID IT, SO CAN I!

I HONOR MADAM CJ WALKER. SHE IS SUCH AN INSPIRATION TO ME, JUST KNOWING SHE WORKED HARD TO BECOME ONE OF THE FIRST BLACK SELF MADE MILLIONAIRE AND NOT ONLY THAT BUT SHE'S A WOMAN! HOW AWESOME IS THAT!

I KNOW ONE DAY I'LL BECOME THE NEXT MADAM CJ WALKER!

Born Sarah Breedlove on December 23, 1867, on a plantation in Delta, Louisiana, she was the daughter of former slaves.

She set out with $1.25 and plenty of determination to become America's first self-made woman millionaire.

Sarah J. Walker (known as Madam C.J. Walker) was the first American self-made millionairess.
In 1916, Madame C.J. Walker moved to New York City.

Walker was also an activist for human rights. In 1917, she was part of a delegation that visited the White House petitioning President Woodrow Wilson to make lynching a federal crime

  1. Yes, Sarah was phenomenal! Building her wealth from hair care products and real-estate. Her daughter A'Leila was also smart in her endeavors, using her inheritance shrewdly. She got the Harlem Renaissance moving!

But before Madame C.J. there was Annie Malone. Another sista who was successful in patenting the hot comb. She also had hundreds of employees, a thriving college (the first dedicated to the study of black cosmetology), and sold Poro Products door-to-door.

Both of these women are inspirational!

  2. I totally agree, Madame CJ Walker is most definitely an inspiration to me as well. Making a million during her time period was definitely an challenge but she proved that it was possible. She's truly an inspiration to African-American women who make their own products and someone we can strive to be like!!
